Supporting Kids Foundation
All-Volunteer, All for Kansas City
Supporting Kids Foundation was started by a group of Dads in a Lenexa neighborhood in 2009. The premise was that if you entertain people and present them with a good cause, they will lean in. Turns out that was the right idea. Since raising $9000 that first year, SKF has given over $5.1M in assistance since them. All of that by a 100% volunteer board and team. SKF has board members from all over Kansas City representing great companies and great neighborhoods.
For the last 12 years, SKF has worked closely with the social workers at Children's Mercy. These amazing individuals identify the need and send to us to fulfill. They are the eyes and ears of the foundation helping make sure the needs are being met. The relationship with Children's Mercy goes beyond that though. 10 years ago we remodeled the parent room on 4Henson (Hematology/Oncology) at Children's Mercy to provide the parents with critical resources and services hey need for long stays. With the help of our donors and sponsors, we've been stocking the parent room with supplies ever since.
Finally, there is actually a patient room at Children's Mercy on 4Henson called the Supporting Kids Foundation room. Truly a great honor, but more importantly, it speaks to the impact that you all have made in the community and on these families lives.
Our Mission
Simply put NO ONE BUDGETS FOR CANCER. For that reason, our mission is to make sure that parents are by their child's side fighting cancer with dignity and peace of mind. We don't think they should be worried about whether to miss work and get behind on bills or be by their child's side. That is our mission and that is our goal.
